Ardez: ruler

Prelude. 

This inscription came a long way. I took a picture of it in Ardez in autumn, 2013, and a couple of weeks ago (in 2017), in order to be translated, it traveled from Paris to Fribourg via internet, then from Fribourg to... Samedan (?) by post. In the end, Fribourg has got German translation from Engadine, and I've got the French one.

Fugue.

Ingio regnar es be pussanza
sainza scumpart da l'abundanza,
sainza resguard e colianza,
ingio'l regent es be tiran,
bainbod chastia là il gran
ed our d'la spia nu dvainta pan.

Ardez, Engiadina Bassa

Là où régner n'est que puissance,
sans la répartition (distribution) de l'abondance,
sans égard et liaison (union?),
là où le régent n'est que tyran,
là bientôt le grain punit (châtie)
et hors de l'épi ne devient pas du pain.
